Temecula- Winter Activities

Monday, June 28, 2010

Temecula California is an active place during the summer. Its wineries, scenic rolling hills and sunshine make it a favorite tourist destination for visitors from all over the world. But Temecula is not just a summer town. There are activities going on in the area all year long. Consider planning your trip to Temecula in the wintertime to have a very special encounter with this beautiful valley.

Most of Temecula’s wineries hold tastings and tours all year long. You can set up a tour with one of the area’s many tour companies or plan your own self-guided tour with a few or many wineries. Call ahead to make sure that the winery is open for tours on the day you plan to attend. Some of the wineries offer special programs during the winter such as music concerts, literary readings and parties. You may wish to plan your trip to include some of these special events or to work around them if you prefer a more private tasting.

South Coast Winery is presenting Maggie’s Wild Women of Wine Country Cooking Class on Saturday November 7th, 2009. This large cooking class features several chefs who will show participants how to include wine in their foods and how to pair wines with those foods. Proceeds of the event go to Michelle’s Place Breast Cancer Resource Center. The class is likely to sell out as there are only 210 spots so call the winery to book early.

November 6th and 7th is also Earle Stanley Gardner & Perry Mason Mystery Weekend in town put on by Old Town Temecula. The weekend includes a murder mystery dinner, mystery writing contest, and a writers’ conference. The conference features published authors, agents, and crime analysts and culminates with a writing competition with a first prize of $200. Visit the Old Town Temecula website for more details (www.temeculacalifornia.com).

Winterfest in Temecula lasts from November 27- December 23, 2009. There are a variety of events for children and adults including visits with Santa and horse drawn carriage rides to see the city’s holiday light display. There are carolers downtown and “snow” arriving at the Children’s Museum. Local shops and restaurants will be featuring Winterfest specials and the entire city is decked out for the season.

Bringing Temecula out of the winter doldrums is the Old Town Temecula Bluegrass Festival held March 20th and 21st, 2010. Several concert sites are set up around the city including a large stage at the Community Hall. Some of the concerts are free. Entertainment lasts throughout the weekend and area bars and restaurants will also have bluegrass music to complement the weekend’s theme. This is one of Temecula’s largest events of the year and is not to be missed.

Wintertime in Temecula has charms all of its own. With more room to roam, warm winter days and cool winter nights, and more wine and fun than you could ever take all in, Temecula is a great winter getaway.
