Small dogs

Having any pet is something that pretty much anyone can appreciate. Fortunately, there are so many domesticated animals that a person can choose from and they all are usually great pets. Regardless of the type of animal that it may be, it is important to understand that they are very beneficial for a lot of reasons. Pretty much since the dawn of man, there have been pets that people have used for companionship, as well as some sort of tool. More recently, we generally do not use them as tools, but we do enjoy them as companions. This is especially true for the small dog.

On the subject of companions, there is really nothing better than a small dog. Of all of the breeds that a person can choose, these really take the cake. While any dog is fine, especially when it comes to companionship, the small dog is one that is generally above criticism. Although they have been pretty popular with celebrities in recent times, they are really not that much of a fad. They will continue to be very popular, regardless of what socialite may be carrying them in a carrier. Not only is the small dog fiercely loyal, they are also pretty easy to maintain and feed.

Usually, when people think about these animals, they generally think of women. Although this may be something that may have been popularized by the media, this is usually not so. Many men have small dogs, and they love them just as much as women, as they make for a great pet. They have the same mental attributes and behaviors as the larger dog and they are just as loving. And while they may not be as strong as bigger dogs, they make up for this in other ways.

With bigger dogs, they tend to be a little more stubborn, not to mention that they eat a lot of food. This makes the small dog an amazing choice for many people. They can take better care of them by being able to buy some of the more pricey stuff when it comes to food and other things that the dog owner may find pertinent when it comes to their little bundle of joy.

The small dog is great in another respect too. There is also the potential to dress them up and there are a plethora of items that are catered to the small dog, as those are generally the breeds of dogs that owners like to dress up. There are not very many things that are cuter than a little dog dressed in a little shirt.

For the pet owner who is pretty unsure as far as what they may want in a dog, they should really look into acquiring a small dog. These little dogs are hands down the best way to go, especially if the pet owner may want to play dress up. These dogs could be a great gift for basically anyone, they do not particularly have to be a female.

When He Can’t Run Around

Monday, June 28, 2010

If you are like the rest of us, you love your dog and treat him like a member of the family. You feed him the best food, give him the best toys, and even let him sleep with you at night. When you go somewhere, you probably take him with you because you feel bad for leaving him at home. Sometimes you want to take the dog but you know that you cannot just leave him to run around. He might run away, he might scare somebody, or any other of a number of ways that dogs can get into trouble. What do you do? You will have to find a way to secure him.

Small dogs are the easiest to deal with. For a little guy, like a Chihuahua or a dachshund, you can get a playpen that will hold your pooch in one place and still give him room to move around. Just like a child’s playpen, these devices collapse when not in use and can be set up anywhere. They have sides that the dog can see through and high enough sides to keep the dog from jumping out. Throw in a blanket and a few toys to play with and your dog will be happy and secure for as long as you need. Just be sure to take him out occasionally to relieve himself or you might end up with a mess to clean up.

Sometimes playpens are not practical, but you still need to secure the dog. Leashes work well for this. A leash attached to a collar or a harness and then secured to something that will not move with the dog will keep him in the area. The dog’s range will be very limited, but he will not be able to get away. You will want to make sure that you leave the dog in a shaded area with access to food and water, especially if he is going to be secured for any longer than a few minutes. You will also want to remain close to the dog so you can keep an eye on him to make sure that he does not become tangled in the leash.

If you are going to be indoors, you can probably find a way to secure the dog without having to use accessories. The easiest way is to put the dog into a room and close the door. Some dogs are okay in this situation, others are not. Make sure that there is nothing that the dog can get hold of and destroy. Most dogs like to chew, and if they find something they can get and have an empty room to work on it, you can count on it being damaged. Also make sure that the room is not too hot or too cold, and that the dog has access to food and water.

When you want to take the dog with you but you have to secure him, you have plenty of options for keeping him safely locked up to keep him out of trouble.
